Rebuilt in a hurry, on purpose

In August 2021, mid-pandemic, Bemol relaunched its main app: purchases, payments, instalments, account management. The priority was explicit: ship fast. Most of the discovery stage was skipped, and design decisions leaned on the team's market experience instead of formal research.

That trade-off is the honest core of this case. It worked, and the bill arrived later, itemised.

Testing after the fact

With the app built, we ran usability tests in a controlled production environment: three tasks covering first impressions, product discovery habits, and the product detail page. Plan and script by the designers, approved by the PO.

What worked: the visual identity (clean, modern, recognisably Bemol) and the product page's drawer pattern. What didn't: search. Participants struggled to find products, and the gaps pointed straight at taxonomy.

The fixes, and the lesson that outlived them

The critical fixes shipped before launch: a product card redesigned for long product names, explicit attributes and classification, and an add-to-cart button on the card itself.

The search and taxonomy findings outlived the release: they are the reason the Categories redesign exists as a project. Skipping discovery didn't make the questions go away; it scheduled them.
